VITRUVE vs PUSH BAND 2.0

INTRODUCTION TO COMPARISON

Today, the sports sector has experienced very accelerated growth in a short time evolving towards a scenario where every day, teams, athletes, and consumers seek to have more precise control of their training and that offers measurements to improve performance-optimizing time and resources.

That is why from VITRUVE, we focus on the sports technology market and objectively explain what our brand offers concerning a product like PUSH BAND 2.0, a tool that also seeks to improve performance in the gym with metrics.

First of all, we want to let you know that PUSH BAND 2.0 sold the company to Whoop, and their system is no longer available. We don´t know if they actually offer any support to their actual customers, but we don’t expect them to update their app in the future.

At this point, this comparison will help you If you are thinking about purchasing a second hand push band.

GOALS OF THE COMPARISON

  1. Distinguish both types of VBT systems and their reliability.
  2. Compare features of each product.
  3. Analyze software differences.

TECHNOLOGY

The device is a linear position transducer composed of an optical encoder capable of measuring angular movements and a coil that allows them to be linearized, in this way, any linear movement can be measured. This technology can make direct and continuous measurements of the space traveled by a load at 100Hz. This type of technology is the most accurate one.

The device is a 6 DoF inertial unit that contains a 3D accelerometer and a 3D gyroscope capable of detecting the movement we are carrying out and the speed of it by collecting data at 1000 Hz.

REALIABILITY

That is why, during the performance of the exercises in the gym, the results obtained and feedback provided by Vitruve are really reliable, because of the technology. Linear position transducers had proved to be really reliable and consistent, they are the GOLD STANDARD for VBT.

According to a research by the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Vitruve (formerly Speed4lifts) is the most accurate device between 6 other devices in the market, much more accurate than any device based on accelerometers, like in this case, Push band.

Push Band and IMU based technologies have proved not to be reliable enough for Velocity-Based Training, their measures are not precise and accurate enough. This can be read in the paper above.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

The Vitruve device is placed hooked to the barbell or the athlete’s body using a string. It comes with a free app that connects to the device vía Bluetooth or WIFI allowing you to view and save data intuitively and efficiently.

Push Band is a portable device that is placed on the top of the forearm avoiding cables and it also comes with a free app that can be connected to the device using Bluetooth.

COMPATIBILITY

The individual VITRUVE app is compatible with Android and iOS.

The minimum version for Android is 6.0 and the minimum version for iOS is 12.1. However, the Vitruve TEAMS app is only compatible with iOS, available in the App store.

iOS 12 and above devices – Android 7.0 Nougat or higher – Bluetooth 4.2 and above – Not compatible with iPod 5.

BATTERY

FREE APP/APP TEAMS/PORTAL WEB

Vitruve has two types of software, a free version for athletes and a paid version for teams (for managing multiple athletes). Vitruve software stands out for being really accurate in the main metrics: Range of Motion

(inch/cm), average propulsive velocity (m/s), peak velocity (m/s), power (W)  and many other ones.

Push band includes an app where you can see the results and progress of the workouts and create easy-to-read graphics. On the other hand, it also allows you to manage many athletes at the same time.

LOAD-VELOCITY PROFILE

From Vitruve we give great importance to individualizing the training, therefore, in our app, we include guidelines to perform a load-velocity profile easily and quickly so the user can predict their 1RM at every single workout.

Push Band offers a guide to individualizing your VBT sessions allowing you to use speed as a feedback tool to guide training loads based on the goal and percentages associated with that goal.

DATA EXPORT

Currently, Vitruve offers the possibility to export your workouts in .csv and Excel format.

Push Band offers the possibility to export all data collected by team or by individual athletes in .csv format.

SUPPORT

The Vitruve device has a 2-year warranty and regarding the support, in addition to testing all the devices before sending them, it is possible to contact them in a very simple way to solve problems of the device and the app.

Currently, the company has been absorbed by another entity, so the support might be affected.

CONCLUSIONS

  • Regarding the technology of both devices, VITRUVE is really accurate for VBT and Push Band it is not. When it comes to VBT accuracy is super important, in our opinion is better to use nothing than using an inaccurate device that you can´t trust.
  • Both devices are easy to place, transport and use.
  • Both devices are compatible with iOS and Android. (The Vitruve paid app only works on iOS.)
  • Vitruve’s battery lasts 3 times longer.
  • The main difference over the software is that PUSH BAND currently has a web portal where you can see the training data while VITRUVE is still working on it.
